Aeonium subplanum

Green Aeonium, Irish Rose

image

Native to the Canary Islands, this evergreen herbaceous succulent captures attention with its distinctive shape. Large oblong-shaped leaves form rosettes up to twenty inches wide. The young leaves are green but develop a purple tinge with age and sun exposure.
In winter, A. subplanum produces a stalk from its center adorned with clusters of small yellow flowers, attracting bees.

Although Aeonium thrives in full sun, it's sensitive to heat. This delicate succulent dislikes extreme temperatures and may suffer significant damage if exposed to prolonged periods above 100°F (38°C). During such heatwaves, providing shelter and bi-weekly watering is beneficial.

The exotic appearance of this intricate succulent makes A. subplanum an excellent addition to partially shaded rock gardens, borders, and containers.
